Sewing 101

Sewing 101

My mom used to hand embroider when I was a kid and I would watch her make cute things for around the house. My sisters and I tried a few times– I remember failing miserably. My next major fail was in home ec. class when I was in the 5th grade. We were told to make a stuffed animal for the class and I actually had my mom complete it because I was so frustrated.

It’s very ironic that I ended up loving sewing after all but I had a huge shift in my mindset and I think it is important to share. Around the time I turned 18, I remember thinking that I could teach myself anything that I wanted to learn. One of those things was sewing. At first my skills were laughable, but I eventually did teach myself.

Don’t let your initial ineptness stop you from achieving your sewing goals (or any goals for that matter). We creatives are so different because we can see a vision for something and bring it to life– I think that is really awesome.

Happy sewing!
